Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
Today, I have a video from Alex who says,
“Hi Patrik,
I was in an induced coma last month due to a seizure that lasted and repeated itself for over an hour and I had to be medically induced into a coma and be put on a ventilator as well.
All my tests were coming back clear until I had a lumbar puncture and spinal tap and there was high white cell count, meaning there was an infection found in the fluids around my brain and the central nervous system, but I was told they were still unsure of what caused it and have diagnosed me with probable epilepsy.
I am on great medication now and have been seizure free for about a month and a half and I made a great recovery so far. I truly hope the same happens for other ICU patients as well. I got a lot of tests ran on me when I came around. If there are any questions I can help answer, let me know. Wishing you all the best.”
Well, Alex, thank you so much for sending me this email.
I think this is really important information for families in intensive care that do not believe any of the doom and gloom and just belief in cure and therapy and getting out of intensive care alive.
Research shows that approximately 90% of intensive care patients actually survive, that means 9 out of 10 intensive care patients come out of ICU alive. So that should give you great confidence that there’s actually a lot of good things happening in ICU. Unfortunately, what we are reporting here are mainly negative things and I’m aware of that.
I’ve worked in intensive care and critical care for nearly 25 years in three different countries where I worked as a nurse manager for over 5 years and where I’ve been consulting and advocating for families in intensive care since 2013 here at intensivecarehotline.com.
I can confidently, confidently say without the slightest hint of exaggeration that we have saved many lives as part of our consulting advocacy. You can verify that on our testimonial section at intensivecarehotline.com. You can verify it on our podcast section at intensivecarehotline.com where we have interviewed some of our clients who can vouch and verify the work that we have done.
Now, coming back to the email from Alex. So, don’t believe the doom and gloom. I believe that a lot of good things are happening in the ICU. Unfortunately, it’s when things go really bad, and someone is in a very negative spiral.
The other thing that I tried to make reference to is I categorize patients in intensive care from an acuity scale of 0, meaning very low acuity, to 10, very high acuity. Most of the time when it’s an acuity higher than 8, that’s when things go really pear-shaped or can go pear shaped and things get really difficult then.
But in any case, keep in mind that 90% of intensive care patients survive. Therefore, your loved one should also survive. The odds are in their favor. Don’t believe the doom and gloom, don’t believe the negativity stay positive and believe in cure and therapy. So, with all of that said, we have helped hundreds of clients and members families in intensive care all around the world.
That’s why we created a membership for families of critically ill patients in intensive care. You can become a member if you go to intensivecarehotline.com, you click on the membership link or if you go to intensivecaresupport.org directly. In the membership, you have access to me and my team, 24 hours a day, in the membership area and via email and we answer all questions intensive care related.
In the membership, you also have exclusive access to 21 e-books and 21 videos that I have personally written and recorded that will help you to make informed decisions, have peace of mind, control, power, and influence, making sure your loved one gets best care and treatment always.
I also do one-on-one consulting and advocacy over the phone, Zoom, WhatsApp, Skype, whichever medium works best for you. I talk to you and your families directly. I handhold you through this once in a lifetime situation that you simply can’t afford to get wrong. I also talk to doctors and nurses directly with you or on your behalf. I ask all the questions that you haven’t even considered asking and I can connect the dots very, very quickly, painting a picture for you that is more realistic. I also represent you in family meetings with intensive care teams.
We also do medical record reviews in real time so that you can get a second opinion in real time. We also do medical record reviews after intensive care if you have unanswered questions, if you need closure, or if you are simply suspecting medical negligence.
