This is another episode of “YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED“ and in last week’s episode I answered another question from our readers and the question was
You can check out last week’s question by clicking on the link here.
In this week’s episode of “YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED“ I want to answer questions from one of my clients Melanie as part of my 1:1 consulting and advocacy service! Melanie’s sister will be transferred to another private ICU and she needs to be proactive just to have a bed for her sister.
I Will Transfer my Sister to Another Private ICU. Why Do I Need to be Proactive Just to Get a Bed for Her?
“You can also check out previous 1:1 consulting and advocacy sessions with me and Melanie here.”
Melanie: Hi.
Patrik: Hi Melanie.
Melanie: Sorry to bother.
Patrik: No, no. Not at all. Not at all. I’m commuting to my office now. But now, I’m in the building. So, that progress in and of itself..
Melanie: Yes.
Patrik: Right? So, you have mentioned that to him …
Melanie: Yes.
Patrik: This morning, that you are planning to-
Melanie: Yes.
Patrik: Great. Great.
Melanie: He said that we can do it as soon as today if there’s a bed available. Yes.
Recommended:
Patrik: Great. That’s fantastic. Okay.
Melanie: But, he’s going to be on leave and I have to let him know before twelve and then he will hand it over to the intensivist there, yeah and he said that we have to, we have to complain to the executive office, and he said if they don’t respond, you go to the police.
Patrik: I doubt that.
Melanie: He said that, I can’t do that.
Patrik: I doubt that, I have to peddle there, I doubt you have to go to the police, I definitely think that public of the office of the public advocate would be the next step. Not the police.
Melanie: Okay. He’s a great doctor.
Patrik: So, what does he mean he’s going on leave? What does that mean, like?
Related information:
Melanie: He’s going away for the weekend. He’s away till Wednesday.
Patrik: Okay.
Melanie: But he won’t be in the office after 12 but he said if you can find out if there’s a bed available at Parker Private ICU before 12 he’ll make it happen asap.
Patrik: Okay. Sorry. Okay what I’ll do is I will call Parker Private now if I can and then we’ll find out whether that’s a possibility or not.
Melanie: Yes. And he said the intensivist is on this weekend is Dr. Art Telly.
Patrik: Ahhh. Okay, so has he made a phone call?
Melanie: No not yet, he said just, he said let him know before 12 about the bed and if there’s-
Patrik: Oh, I see.
Melanie: Yeah.
Patrik: Okay, great!
Melanie: Yes.
Patrik: Okay so that’s good, he’s got a link in there.
Melanie: Yes.
Patrik: Good to know.
Melanie: Yes and he said, oh I forgot my train of thought. Oh, he said you’ll need a critical care ambulance but that can be arranged.
Patrik: Yep absolutely, that’s the least of my concerns. That’s the least of my concerns. I think what the important is they know you’re proactive. That’s what they need to know.
Melanie: Yes. So, if you could get onto the bed asap.
Related articles:
Patrik: Absolutely, absolutely, so Dr. Art Telly, and what’s the intensivists name at the moment again, it’s a Canadian?
Melanie: In hospital now?
Patrik: Yes.
Melanie: Not year before?
Patrik: Yes. Didn’t you say was a Canadian name, something with-
Melanie: Yeah, I’ll give you Dr. Merrel or something-
Patrik: Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no that and..
Melanie: Telly is the intensivist at Saint Parker and the specialist is Dr. Hansen.
Patrik: Okay, so and he has no, he has no issues with referring him like-
Melanie: Not at all, he’s his patient.
Patrik: Great, great.
Melanie: He said just make it happen. Find a bed and I’ll do it just get it done.
Suggested links:
Patrik: Okay okay, which is a sign to me, again, they wanna have that bed empty.
Melanie: Yeah.
Patrik: As soon as possible. Okay.
Melanie: Please, please, please let me know by even by text.
Patrik: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no.
Melanie: As soon as they have a bed.
Patrik: Absolutely.
Melanie: Thank you.
Patrik: Thank you, bye bye.
Melanie: Bye bye, bye.
Melanie: Yes, yes.
Patrik: What basically happened on my end is she checked the health fund, and she same back to me and she said, “That’s all good. Can take her.” And then she put me through to ICU, so I gave the ICU just a name and a date of birth and the health fund as well. Then they were telling me that the intensivist at Victoria needs to ring the intensivist at Saint Parker ICU. Now, her name is Minette Samuels.
Melanie: Ah. So, I have to tell him this, do I?
Patrik: You do, you do. They didn’t want to give me a mobile number, but-
Melanie: Minette Samuels?
Patrik: Yes, but-
Melanie: So that’s M-I- …
Patrik: I don’t … Just give me one sec; I’ll just Google her name. Just give me a tick.
Melanie: Is it … What’s the time, Patrik? I have to call the specialist.
Patrik: Yeah. You do, you do, because he probably needs to be admitted under Dr. Miller.
Melanie: Yeah, he is. They said he would be.
Patrik: Okay. Good, good. Just give me one sec, please. I’ll just try and find the correct spelling of this intensivist. Yeah. Minette: M-I-N-E-T-T-E.
Melanie: Yeah.
Patrik: And surname is Samuels, and that’s spelled S-A-M-U-E-L-S.
Melanie: Yeah.
Patrik: That’s her, and she is the admitting intensivist, and he needs to contact her, and if you can contact Dr. Millers, that would be great, because that’s probably the missing link. The missing link is Dr. Stratton admitting him.
Related articles:
Melanie: So they didn’t give Minette Samuels’ number?
Patrik: No, they didn’t.
Melanie: Okay.
Patrik: I asked them for it, but they wouldn’t give me the number.
Melanie: Okay. So, there’s no way he could convince not to take him?
Patrik: Say again?
Melanie: There’s no way he could convince her not to take him into Saint Parker?
Patrik: No, I can’t … I don’t think so. The … My experience in private hospitals is that if bed management is happy, right, that they almost have to, right? Look, I think, especially with the long weekend coming up, if there are any beds in a private ICU, it’s usually long weekends, school holiday type of … right? And I guess given that we’ve got this ball rolling so quickly, I think we’ll try and make it happen now.
Melanie: Yeah, yeah, right. Today, right now.
Patrik: That’s right. Right now.
Melanie: I’m there, I’m there. I’ll tell him that I’ll speak to Dr. Millers. Then what do I need to do?
Patrik: Probably nothing else, because the ambulance should be organised by the hospital.
Melanie: Okay, right.
Patrik: You might have to check whether he’s got ambulance cover.
Melanie: Yeah, he has.
Patrik: Okay, great. So that’s covered.
Melanie: Yeah, yes.
Suggested articles:
Patrik: I don’t think there’s anything else, really … It’s really a matter of now you and me facilitating that the people are talking to each other.
Melanie: Okay, all right. I’ll get onto it right now.
Patrik: Right.
Melanie: And if there is … Look, I can tell you, the only obstacle that I can see is that whatever this intensivist at Wunderpool will tell this other intensivist, he will … He probably shares his side of the story.
Patrik: Yeah, I know, but Dr. Stratton has already said that’s all a big load of rubbish. They’re going to say he’s got brain damage, and that’s a big load of bullshit, he said.
Melanie: Great.
Patrik: Yeah, if he’s responding, he said that’s rubbish. They’re all going to say rubbish like that.
Melanie: Exactly.
Patrik: All right.
Recommended:
Melanie: That Dr. Alfredo, he’s probably the most critical. I don’t think it’s the intensivist; it’ll be Dr. Alfredo who will call the shots.
Patrik: Yeah, yes. Okay. All right. Okay, I’ll get onto it now.
Melanie: Sure.
Patrik: Thank you. And I’ll talk to you later.
Melanie: Yeah. Yeah.
Patrik: Great outcome.
Melanie: Any time, yes. Absolutely.
Patrik: Okay.
Melanie: Thank you.
Patrik: Bye. Bye bye.
Melanie: Bye bye.
The 1:1 consulting session will continue in next week’s episode.
