Quick Tip: Has a CT Brain Been Done If Your Loved One Hasn’t Woken Up After an Induced Coma?
It’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care. Yesterday I had an email from Merida one of our readers and she said that her brother has been in an induced coma for a week and now sedation has been ceased for the last five days and her brother still isn’t waking up and she asked whether there’s any chance for her brother ever to come out of the induced coma.
Now my tip for today really is, yes, the chances are there, however, the next question that you need to ask to the Intensive Care team is, have they done for example a CT scan of the brain to rule out a stroke for example, or any other brain event that could delay or even stop your brother from waking up.
The other question you may want to ask are things like this, is your brother in kidney failure or liver failure because it then may take longer for your brother to wake up because sedative drugs and opiates are not being metabolized for example. Another thing you may want to look for is what sedation has your brother had. Is it long-acting or short-acting sedation?
So that’s my quick tip for today. Check out our case studies at intensivecarehotline.com, and I will talk to you in a few days.
