Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from Intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in Intensive Care. This morning, I was talking to a client who has their 78 year old mother in a long-term acute care or LTAC. She’s been on the ventilator now for six weeks and she can’t come off it according to the doctors.
When asked, she said that they’re not mobilizing their mother, which means she’s not getting out of bed. Now, if your loved one is in ICU or in LTAC on a ventilator, ventilator weaning can never happen without mobilization.
So my tip for today is, if your loved one needs to be weaned off a ventilator, especially with tracheostomy. They need to be mobilized into a chair. That’s my tip for today and I’ll talk to you in a few days. Take care.
