Quick Tip for Families in ICU: Do You Know All Treatment Options Available for your Loved One in ARDS?
Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
Currently, i’m consulting a client who had their mother in intensive care with ARDS or lung failure. Now besides standard therapy, like antibiotics, steroids, there are two other and giving Viagra or Flolan nebulizers to open up any collapsed part of the lungs.
There are other two standard therapies such as prone positioning which is basically turning a patient on their tummy so that lungs can expand or the other option is ECMO. Now most families in intensive care are not aware that ECMO is also an option and it’s a reasonably new option and not every hospital can offer ECMO.
So, my tip for today is if your loved one is in ARDS or lung failure, ask what treatment option they have available, whether it’s for example prone positioning or and if they don’t have ECMO available, make sure you do some research and find out where ECMO might be available.
That’s my tip for today. Take care and I’ll talk to you in a few days.
