Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from Intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in Intensive Care. Yesterday, I was talking to a client and this lady has her 31 year old son in Intensive Care with COPD at such a young age and their…her son’s CO2 or carbon dioxide is through the roof. Which means it’s around a hundred millimetres of mercury (mmHg), normal levels for CO2 are 35 to 45 millimetres of mercury (mmHg).
Now if that’s the case her son might have to go on ECMO therapy. Now ECMO therapy is usually only available in big Metropolitan ICUs, big Metropolitan centres and teaching hospitals.
So if you have a loved one in a situation like that, you need to look for where ECMO therapy is available. And that’s what I recommended for this lady and we are helping her to look out for such an ECMO Centre where her son can go on ECMO. That’s my tip for today. Take care for now, and I’ll talk to you in a few days.
