If you want to know if you should make a lawsuit against the hospital who’s potentially pushed your loved one to death prematurely, stay tuned!

Hi, my name is Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com.

Today, I have an email from Lena who says,

“Hi Patrik,

I need to make a lawsuit against the ICU because they stopped life support, which was the feeding tube and the medication for my mom and pushed her to death. I wanted her to transfer to another hospital and they refused. Can you help?”

Well, Lena, I’m very sorry to hear that. But like I’ve been saying for over 10 years now, the biggest challenge for families in intensive care is that they don’t know what they don’t know. They don’t know what to look for. They don’t know what questions to ask. They don’t know their rights and they don’t know how to manage doctors and nurses in intensive care.

I can’t tell you how many emails that I get like this where families don’t see the train coming, they’re running towards the fire, and they don’t even know that it’s coming because they trust blindly. They trust blindly that the intensive care team will just do what’s in the best interest for their loved ones, but the reality is that many intensive care teams, not all, will do what’s in the best interest for the hospital and for the ICU for finances, for budgets, for bed management, for staff levels and so forth.

So, it is really important that you do your research and that you get help from Day 1 when you have a loved one critically ill in intensive care, and don’t leave it up to chance. When you have a loved one in intensive care, you are in a once in a lifetime situation that you simply can’t afford to get wrong. This is clear from Lena’s email here that she got it terribly wrong, and she potentially lost her mom because she didn’t do her research, and she left it up to chance.

Think about it, if you have a loved one critically ill in intensive care, will you leave it up to chance or will you get a second opinion? And will you take action? It’s interesting that so many families watch my videos, and they say, “Oh, great videos!” and then they don’t take action and then they find themselves in a situation like that. They think they can manage intensive care teams themselves.

I have worked in critical care for nearly 25 years in three different countries where I also worked as a nurse manager for over 5 years. I’ve seen the system at work, I know how the system works inside out. I’ve been consulting and advocating for families in intensive care since 2013 here at intensivecarehotline.com. So, in this situation, Lina, we can look at the medical records and look for medical negligence. It’s very simple, and then once we’ve established that there is medical negligence, and then you can take it to a lawyer. The lawyers don’t have the expertise to review intensive care medical records, which is our area of expertise, but they can then take the next steps to make a lawsuit against the hospital.

If you’re watching these videos just for entertainment because you have a loved one in intensive care, I’d rather have you not watch those videos because you’re just setting yourself up for failure. If you think I want to scam you out of some money or whatever, do whatever you want, believe whatever you want. I know our skill and I know that we have saved many lives, and if you think you can manage intensive care things yourself without the insider knowledge, you’ll be fighting an uphill battle. If you trust blindly, you are already fighting a lost cause.

That is just my tip for today.

The longer you wait, the less likely it is you get results. You also need to take full responsibility for outcomes. You need to stop making excuses. You need to take full responsibility when dealing with intensive care teams and really not make any excuses and get the help that you need.
