Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecareholtine.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
Today’s tip is about one-way extubation in intensive care. Now many families come in intensive care, come to us at intensivecarehotline.com and they say, look the Intensive Care team has told us that tomorrow at one o’clock they want to extubate my loved one and they’re not going to re-intubate him, which basically means they’re taking out the breathing tube, but they’re not going to put it back in if clinically needed which in essence means your loved one is going to die.
Now that’s a massive challenge because at the end of the day, it’s imposing a life-or-death decision to you without asking your opinion and without you knowing what’s exactly happening. So if you are in a situation like that, you need to oppose it because at the end of the day, if the ICU team is referring to a “one-way extubation”, it’s basically a sink or swim approach and if your loved can’t breathe without the breathing tube they’re going to die.
So if that’s your situation you should contact us as quickly as possible at one of the numbers on the top of our website intensivecarehotline.com because we can help you with that because we are professional advocates and consultants for families in intensive care, and we get results, outcomes for our families because we understand intensive care inside out and we can help you very very fast.
So that’s my tip for today and tomorrow. I’ll give you another tip when it comes to one-way extubation because you can actually do that at home, but I’ll talk to you about that tomorrow. Take care for now.
