Quick Tip for Families in ICU. Is a Trache Needed If Your Loved One Can’t Come Off Ventilation?
Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care. Today’s tip is, when is the right time to leave ICU and go to another ICU because you are unsatisfied with what’s currently being offered in your ICU where your loved one is at?
Now, yesterday, I had a phone call from a client whose brother potentially needs a tracheostomy. After the tracheostomy would be done, the ICU wants to shift her brother out to long-term acute care and the family is trying to avoid that.
So my tip is, rather than staying, rather than going to another ICU, look at what’s possible. Is there any chance that your brother can be weaned off the ventilator in the first place and not need to tracheostomy and then not go to LTAC in the first place.
We’ve certainly achieved that for other clients, and we have case studies and interviews on our podcast, you know, and if your situation is similar, you need to get professional consultancy and advocacy on a clinical level, and you can get that at intensivecarehotline.com
Take care, and I’ll talk to you in a few days
